Level 1 Vehicle Accident Repair

This engaging and motivating Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) is generally aimed at learners 16-19 years old who have a keen interest to learn about vehicle accident repair.

The course is made up of 14 exciting and engaging units related to cutting edge industry approved vehicle panel repair and paint techniques incorporating the knowledge skills and behaviours needed to enter into the vehicle body and paint repair sector. This is delivered over a number of days where you will undertake practical and theory sessions each week.

· L1AR03 - Introduction to Metal Preparation

· L1AR04 - Panel Removal and Refitting

· L1AR05 - Minor Panel Damage Repairs

· L1AR06 - Vehicle Welding Techniques

· L1AR09 - Vehicle Paint Preparation

· L1AR10 - Spray Gun Components and Maintenance

· L1AR11 - Paint Spraying and Masking Techniques

· L1AR12 - Primer Preparation and application Techniques

· L1AR14 - Panel Joint Sealing and Corrosion Protection

· L1AR15 - Removing and Applying Graphics and Lettering

· L1AR16 - Vehicle Exterior Valeting and Detailing

· L1AR17 - Vehicle Interior Valeting and Detailing
The Vehicle Accident Repair course is mainly aimed at switched on individuals who are looking to enter into the Vehicle Accident Repair Sector. This highly paid skill is transferable, meaning that there is a wide-ranging list of careers that this qualification is applicable as an entry point.

Working in our brand-new state of the art Automotive Accident Repair Training Centre, starting at Level 1, a student will be gradually introduced to different skills by time served industry specialists. Students will initially start on small projects and gradually build their skills, until they are ready to take on more challenging work and projects.

You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits from manufacturers and recognised Automotive Industry representatives such as PPG, Devilbiss, Sata, Mirka and HB Body to name but a few.

A full programme of enrichment is built in by your tutor and the College enrichment team, work experience is an expectation, our work experience team will assist you in finding placements.

Throughout the year we will also be looking to place students in an apprenticeship if available.

The Course runs from September to June for 35 weeks. There are 15 units to be completed to achieve the qualification. Skills are taught during practical sessions in a simulated industry standard Bodyshop environment and the knowledge or theory side is taught in automotive themed learning spaces.
GCSE’s are needed for this course, preferably in maths, English and a science is desirable. You should have a keen interest in the field of vehicle accident repairs.
Throughout the duration of this course, practical and theory aspects of the course are delivered. You will complete one online assessment during the year, to check you’ve learnt the appropriate knowledge. You’ll also be building up a portfolio of evidence of your practical tasks and written assessments on the IMI E-portfolio.
If students are successful and achieve the level one, at progression, they can choose the pathway they want to take in the industry of the panel or paint pathways. At Level 2, the student will learn further techniques and skills and knowledge related to vehicle accident repair, whilst exploring the subject in a deeper more specialised delivery model.

Performance is tracked and reviewed by Vehicle Accident Repair tutors at specific points during the term. Satisfactory performance will be required in all aspects of the course for progression to Level 2. Progression is to a Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Panel or Paint Repair or a L3 Apprenticeship standard.
