The light vehicle maintenance and repair course is mainly aimed at switched on individuals who are looking to enter into the vehicle maintenance and repair sector.

This highly paid skill is transferable, meaning that there is a wide-ranging list of careers that this qualification is applicable to as an entry point.

The Course runs from September to June for 35 weeks for two nights on consecutive evenings 5:30-8:30pm. One night will be a practical workshop evening where full PPE will be needed (Not supplied) The second night is a theory evening, working in a classroom. There is also a requirement for a third night at home to complete digital blended learning each week online for another 3 hours. This will be set by your tutor through Microsoft Teams for you to complete on the City and Guilds digital learning platform Smart Screen working through the same units you are completing at college. This self-guided system is mandatory. In total there is a mandatory attendance requirement of 9 hours per week to achieve. You will need to ensure you are available. Minimum attendance requirement is 90% to be certificated.

There are 7 units needed to be covered to achieve the qualification. Skills are taught during practical sessions in a simulated industry standard workshop environment and the knowledge or theory side is taught in mechanical themed learning spaces.
Ideally, you need to have had some provable previous experience with vehicles and repair equipment as this course is not entry level, preferably a City & Guilds Level 1 or IMI Level 1 qualification in Light vehicle maintenance and Repair Principles, or Maths and English grade C/4.
Throughout the duration of this course, practical and theory aspects of the course are delivered. You will complete written and online assessments at the end of each unit to check you’ve learnt the appropriate knowledge. You will also be building up a portfolio of evidence of your practical tasks both written and electronic.
Performance is tracked and reviewed by mechanical tutors at specific points during the term. Satisfactory performance will be required in all aspects of the course for progression to Level 3.
