Level 2 Plumbing

This full-time study programme provides learners with the practical skills and knowledge to start a career as a bricklayer in the construction industry. The course follows the City & Guilds Level 2 Extended Technical Occupational Entry in Bricklaying (Diploma), which is aligned with the Bricklayer Occupational Standard (ST0095).

You will study six core units:

Health and safety in a construction environment

Principles of welfare, health and safety in construction

Principles of working in the construction industry

Setting out buildings

Building solid walls and piers

Building cavity walls

The course is taught through a mix of theory and practical sessions in industry-standard workshops. You will take part in practical assignments and multiple-choice online examinations, all of which must be passed to achieve the qualification.

The course is assessed through a combination of online multiple-choice exams and internally marked practical assignments.
Your timetable will consist of 5 hours per week classroom based learning for your underpinning knowledge and 5 hours per week workshop with a 1-hour tutorial over 3 days per week.

Our study programmes include a vocational qualification, English and maths, work experience and employability skills. Students also have the opportunity to take part in sport and enrichment activities alongside their course.

You can easily transfer from a study programme onto a Plumbing apprenticeship course. There will be dedicated individual/self-study time which needs to be supported by your own study out of the College learning environments. E-learning is also a key element of all our courses and will involve you using Microsoft Teams for independent study and learning

There are opportunities to demonstrate your skills and abilities through skill competitions. You will need your own personal protective equipment including safety boots and work clothing (you can purchase these from our approved suppliers at a discounted rate). Although all other tools and equipment are provided, you will need to purchase stationery items for use in the classroom such as folders, pens and rulers.
GCSE Maths & English graded 9-4. Level 1 qualification in construction or building services.
At the end of the course each learner is required to successfully complete a practical end assessment to prove their skills and sit an online exam to check for theory knowledge under exam conditions, in order to achieve the full qualification.

Important to note: you will only be given one opportunity to re-sit the external exam and the final synoptic assessment.
