Already have your foundation in hairdressing and ready to take it to the next level? This intermediate course is designed for adults who want to advance their practical and creative skills while preparing for real work in salons or freelance opportunities.
This fast-paced, part-time programme builds on the basics and equips you with more advanced salon techniques, delivered by expert tutors in our modern, high-street commercial salon. You’ll study a wide range of topics, including:

· Health and safety in the salon

· Client consultations and customer service

· Shampooing and conditioning

· Cutting women’s hair

· Colouring and lightening techniques

· Perming hair

· Art of Dressing hair

· Promoting products and services

· Creating a professional image

You’ll also develop employability skills in communication, time management, teamwork, and working with a diverse clientele. You'll be challenged to improve your English and maths through salon-based tasks like writing consultations, timing services, and calculating costs.

· Practical salon sessions with real paying clients

· Theory classes that support your hands-on work

· Trips, industry visits, seminars, and competitions to inspire your creativity

· Recommended work experience in a local salon or barbershop to keep your skills sharp and in line with current trends
· To join this course, you’ll need to have successfully completed Level 1 Hairdressing and Barbering or an equivalent qualification.

· Level 2 standard in English and Maths is required

· You’ll meet with a specialist tutor to discuss your goals and make sure this course is the right fit for you.

Before you start, you’ll need to purchase a salon uniform and a professional kit. Financial help may be available for eligible students—ask us how we can support you.
You’ll be assessed through:

· Practical assessments

· Written tasks and assignments

· Online exams

Each unit is graded as Pass, Merit, or Distinction—and you’ll need to complete all units to achieve the qualification.
After successfully completing this course, you could progress into:

· Level 3 Hairdressing

· Level 2 Beauty Therapy

· A role as a Junior Stylist

· Working as a Freelance Hairdresser

If you meet the unemployed* criteria, or are employed^ where the earnings threshold applies, or are aged 19-23 and you don’t already hold a qualification equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 (C) or above, tuition fees will be waived.
