Level 3 Sport
Course content & format
The course is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and understanding of coaching sport & physical activity. You will complete 10 units over the two years of study that will ensure you have the ability to plan, deliver and review sports sessions. You will use up-to-date technology to analyse the performance of athletes, design training programmes for players and have an in-depth understanding of the sport & physical activity sector. You will complete the study programme with the underpinning knowledge to be highly successful in a variety of university courses or to confidently move directly to employment.
This is a full time study programme consisting of a variety of internal assessments such as delivering sessions, written tasks, presentation assignments and group activities. The units briefly comprise of Anatomy, Fitness Training, Sports coaching, performance analysis & practical sports.
In addition to the core subject knowledge you will complete essential work placement activities that will provide you the opportunity to put all your skills into practice. This is a compulsory element of the programme as we pride ourselves in ensuring our learners have real-work experience in order to move seamlessly into employment or Higher Education.
Your learning experience
If sport is your passion and you enjoy working with others this is the course for you. We want young people willing to try new activities, wanting to build their confidence and aspire to work in
the sport sector. You will have the opportunity to explore various sports, advance your ability to plan & deliver succinct activity sessions and develop your skills in using technology in sport. You will use our new lab to test performers, you will interact with data captured on our GoPro’s and iPads; then use this information to make improvements with these performers. Classes will take various forms; they will be in our large sports hall, in the new Sport Science Lab, the fitness suite, and virtually. We will visit institutions to support our delivery including universities and sports venues. There will be guest speakers who can share their wisdom and wealth of experience. You will also get the opportunity to be adventurous on trips such as rock climbing, ice skating and kayaking. In order for you to experience all this and more we will need you to complete a DBS check at the start of the year and commit to completing weekly work placements.
Entry qualifications
Level 3 (Advanced)
- 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Mathematics or English.
You will be interviewed for this course and require DBS clearance, you should be enthusiastic about working in the sport and physical activity sector and able to participate in work experience.
How is this course assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and practical assessments whilst in class, through virtual environments and on work placements. There are no external exams however you must be willing to give permission for photographic & video evidence be used and shared with the awarding body.
This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*
What can I do next?
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:
