Photography (Vocational A Level)
Course content & format
This course is structured around four Units of which 3 are mandatory and two are external over a two year study programme. These units present an opportunity for the learner to explore traditional and contemporary photographic materials, techniques and processes. Investment in digital technologies has meant that the students will have access to vital state of the art digital equipment and training. Students are encouraged to develop their own unique style with emphasis placed on the development of the student’s appreciation of photography as a method of visual communication and expression. The photography department consists of a professional standard traditional darkroom, studios and digital darkroom facilities. Course lecturers are working professionals and are able to offer the student an insight into current industry practice.

How is this course assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and practical assessments. There will also be set tasks which are completed in specified conditions after a period of preparation.
This is a graded course where you can achieve a triple Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
What can I do next?
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:
● On completion of the first year you will progress onto year 2 which is equivalent to 1 A level. This will enable you to enter University at undergraduate level
● Employment within the Creative Industry
● An Apprenticeship or degree level Apprenticeship
