You’ll also benefit from personalised academic and career support throughout your journey.

Employer Engagement and Industry Visits

To enrich your learning, we organise visits to local and national employers in the tech and digital industries, allowing you to gain insight into real workplace environments and current industry practices. Previous trips have included visits to digital agencies, software development companies, tech hubs, and innovation centres. These experiences provide valuable networking opportunities and help you explore potential career paths.

Our careers team is also available to help you explore employment and apprenticeship options, prepare for interviews, and develop your CV and digital portfolio.
Grade C/4 (or above) in GCSE English and Maths. Certificates will need to be presented. We will accept an Ofqual recognised Level 2 Functional Skills for English but not for maths, however this could limit university course applications. It is your responsibility to check entry requirements for the course you are interested in and the university you wish to attend. Any overseas qualifications must be officially recognised in the UK and must be verified as equivalent by an exams equivalence service, e.g., UK ENIC. Please note entry qualifications must be in place prior to the start of the course and cannot be studied alongside the Access qualification.
The way Access is structured means that assessment is on-going throughout the year. Your first assignments are usually undertaken just a few weeks into the course. The style of assessment varies so you develop a wide range of skills in preparation for university. We use a variety of coursework assignments designed to reflect real-world tasks and industry practices; there are currently no exams on this course. These assessments may include written reports, practical projects, presentations, case studies, and reflective evaluations.

There are 15 graded units on the course which will be awarded at pass, merit and distinction. These graded units are worth ‘UCAS’ points. Universities will ask for a certain number of UCAS points in any offers they make to you. For almost all courses our students go onto study, universities ask for a combination of distinctions and merits, however this varies widely between courses, so it is recommended you check entry requirements for the course you wish to study at the university you would like to apply to.

You will be given clear guidance and support for each assignment, with regular feedback from your tutors to help you develop your skills and achieve your goals. This assessment approach allows you to build a portfolio of work that showcases your abilities and prepares you for progression into higher education or employment in the digital sector.
The normal progression route for this course is onto a higher education programme such as our Level 4/5 HTQ in Computing or a first degree at university. Our tutors will be working with you to support and advise on the best pathways to follow based on your personal goals. On successful completion of the course you will have various opportunities in the area of computing including Software Development and Cyber Security. In addition to specialist careers, there is a wide range of opportunities in business where in-depth knowledge of computer systems is a valuable asset.
