Level 2 Engineering
Course content & format
The course has been designed to give learners an understanding of a wide range of engineering practices and allows them to develop a range of practical engineering skills, and safe and professional behaviours. If the learner is a person who enjoys learning by ‘doing’ and is more ‘hands on’ then this course is for them.
The Core Component:
Along with the practical lessons the learner will study some underpinning theory to further develop an understanding of engineering processes, tools and equipment, the engineering environment, health and safety and engineering drawings. The practical work aims to cover a range of engineering disciplines including mechanical, maintenance and fabrication engineering and basic electrical/electronic engineering.
Your learning experience
This qualification is for you if you are a 16-19-year-old learner, who wishes to work within the engineering industry.
The qualification will suit someone who is not yet employed or looking to enter the industry post mainstream education. The structure of the qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge and understanding across the Engineering industry in both practical and theory areas.
Entry qualifications
You will be interviewed by the subject teachers to be offered a place on the qualification. You must hold a minimum of 3 GCSE’s which include English and Maths at Grade 3.
How is this course assessed?
Once you have completed your training tasks you will be assessed using a range of methods:
- Demonstration of competent practical skills (assessed tasks)
- Online multiple choice assessment
- Assignments (short answer questions to verify underpinning knowledge)
What can I do next?
This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed to work for working in the engineering industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an Apprentice.
The completion of this qualifications gives learners the opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (which builds on your practical skills); or into a job or on to an apprenticeship. Alternatively, to take a more academic route, you will need GCSE grade 5 (or above) in Maths for progression on to our BTEC Level 3 National Foundation in Engineering course.
