Level 2 Carpentry
Course content & format
This full-time course provides the essential practical skills and theoretical knowledge to start a career in site carpentry. You will develop your ability to carry out a range of woodwork tasks on construction sites and domestic projects, while gaining insight into the construction industry’s working practices and safety standards.
Units covered include:
· Health and safety in a construction environment
· Principles of welfare, health and safety in construction environments
· Principles of working in the construction industry
· Timber technology
· Structural carpentry
· First fix carpentry
· Second fix carpentry
· Circular saw
Training takes place in purpose-built workshops and classrooms, combining practical tasks, group projects, and theory lessons. The programme is designed in alignment with the Carpentry and Joinery Occupational Standard (ST0264).
Your learning experience
This course is ideal if you enjoy working with your hands and want to work on construction sites fitting floors, walls, doors, and roofs. Site carpenters are involved in every stage of a build, from initial structural frameworks to finishing tasks.
Work with professional tools and timber materials in industry-standard workshops.
Develop first and second fix carpentry skills including stud walling, roof structures, doors, frames, and kitchen installation.
Engage with employers through site visits and guest speakers.
Gain your CSCS 'Green Card' to access live construction sites.
Learn how to safely operate a circular saw and other essential power tools.
Entry qualifications
· 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above
· Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery qualification
You will be interviewed for this course and should show an interest in practical construction work, classroom studies and a willingness to follow strict health and safety protocols.
How is this course assessed?
· Four externally set and marked multiple-choice exams (Units 101, 201, 202, and 251).
· One externally set, internally marked and externally verified practical skills assignment (Unit 261).
· All assessments are graded Pass/Fail.
· You must pass all components to successfully complete the diploma.
What can I do next?
After completing this course, you could progress to:
· Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry (if available)
· Carpentry Apprenticeship
· Employment in the construction industry as a trainee Site Carpenter
