Level 2 Joinery

This full-time course provides learners with the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to work as an architectural joiner. Learners will gain expertise in the design, manufacture, and installation of timber components used in buildings such as doors, windows, staircases, and frames.

Units covered include:

- Health and safety in a construction environment

- Principles of welfare, health and safety in construction environments

- Principles of working in the construction industry

- Timber technology

- Planning and preparation for setting out and marking out architectural joinery

- Use of woodworking machinery

- Architectural joinery component production

- Assembly and finishing of architectural joinery products

Training combines classroom theory, simulated workshop activities, and hands-on joinery tasks aligned to occupational standards.
If you’re detail-oriented, good with your hands, and enjoy problem solving, this course will give you the skills to produce high-quality timber products used in architectural construction.

- Train in fully equipped joinery workshops with access to specialist hand and power tools.

- Learn industry-standard techniques for cutting, assembling, and finishing joinery components.

- Gain experience with fixed woodworking machinery, following health and safety regulations.

- Participate in employer-engaged activities and real-world projects.

- Achieve the skills and knowledge aligned with the Carpentry and Joinery Occupational Standard (ST0264).
- 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above

- Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery qualification

- A clear interest in wood occupations and manufacturing environments.

- You will attend an interview to assess your enthusiasm and suitability for the course.
- Four externally set and marked multiple-choice exams (Units 101, 201, 202, and 252).

- One practical assignment (Unit 262) involving setting out and manufacturing a staircase.

- All assessments are graded Pass/Fail.

- Learners must pass all components to successfully complete the diploma.
On successful completion, learners may progress to:

- Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry

- An Apprenticeship in Bench/Architectural Joinery

- Employment in bespoke joinery workshops or the construction manufacturing industry

- Self-employment with further experience and development
