Introduction to Video Editing (Adults) (Term2)

Learn the essentials of video editing and build confidence using editing software in a supportive, step-by-step environment. This course is designed for adult beginners who want to edit videos for personal projects, social media, work, or as a first step towards further study.

Key areas include:

-Importing and organising assets (video, audio, images) into folders/bins for a tidy workflow

-Editing a short video sequence using trims, cuts, and timeline tools

-Enhancing edits with titles, transitions, simple colour fixes, and balanced audio

-Understanding basic storytelling, pacing and how to build a clear sequence

-Exporting and sharing correctly using suitable settings for web and social media

-Good file management: saving projects, backing up, and naming exports clearly

Sessions are practical and workshop-based, combining demonstrations, guided practice, tutor support and short creative tasks that build skills week by week.
You will learn in a supportive adult-learning environment with regular tutor feedback and clear guidance to help you improve throughout the course.

Learning is hands-on and project-based, with access to:

-Computers with video editing software and suitable storage for project files

-A range of practice footage (or you may bring your own, if you prefer)

-Headphones and audio resources for editing sound and voice

-Tutor support to help you develop confidence, creativity and technical understanding

Throughout the course you will develop a clear editing workflow, improve your confidence using the timeline and tools, and produce short edits that show progress in both skill and creativity.

No formal entry requirements. This course is designed for adult beginners.

Basic computer skills are helpful, but everything is taught step-by-step.

English Verbal Communication Skills
Assessment is through practical work completed across the course. There are no formal exams.

You will build a small portfolio of short edits and project work that demonstrates your developing skills and growing confidence. Evidence may include:

- Completed editing exercises and short projects

- Timeline screenshots or project files showing your workflow and organisation

- Exported videos showing technical and creative progress

- Planning notes (e.g., shot lists, simple storyboards or edit plans)

Evaluation, reflection and notes from feedback
On successful completion you could:

-Progress to an intermediate video editing course

-Develop your own content for social media, events, hobbies or work

-Begin creating short films, promotional videos or documentaries for personal projects

-Explore related courses such as Photography, Digital Media, Film Production or Graphic Design

This course is an ideal first step for learners who want to build confidence, learn a valuable creative skill and start producing polished videos with a clear editing workflow.
