Advanced Sewing (Adults) (Term3)

Develop your sewing skills further and build confidence in producing more complex garments and textile outcomes. This course is designed for adult learners who already have a foundation in sewing and want to refine their techniques, improve accuracy, and take on more challenging projects.

Key areas include:

●  Using industrial sewing machines, tools and equipment confidently and accurately

●  Developing more advanced garment construction and finishing techniques

●  Understanding pattern use, adaptation and fitting

●  Exploring fabric types and selecting appropriate materials for different projects

●  Planning, producing and presenting high-quality sewn outcomes

Sessions are practical and workshop-based, combining demonstrations, tutor guidance, individual making and opportunities to develop your own projects.
You’ll learn in a supportive adult-learning environment with regular tutor feedback and clear next steps to help you improve throughout the course.

Learning is hands-on and project-based, with access to:

●  Sewing machines and specialist equipment

●  A practical workshop environment for garment and textile construction

●  Tutor support to help you develop confidence, independence and attention to detail

Throughout the course you’ll strengthen your technical ability, improve the quality of your finishing, and produce work that reflects your growing confidence and creativity.
Advanced

It is recommended that learners have prior sewing experience and can use a sewing machine with confidence.

· This course is suitable for learners who have completed an introductory or intermediate sewing course, or who have equivalent practical experience.

Assessment is through practical work completed across the course. There are no formal exams.

You’ll build a portfolio of samples, outcomes and project work that demonstrates your developing skills and creative progress. Evidence may include:

●  finished garments or textile outcomes

●  samples showing techniques and construction methods

●  planning, development and pattern work

●  evaluation/reflection and notes from feedback

Your tutor will provide ongoing feedback to help you improve your techniques and achieve the best possible outcomes.
On successful completion you could:

●  Progress to further sewing, dressmaking, fashion or textile courses

●  Develop your own independent sewing projects or creative portfolio

●  Apply your skills to alterations, commissions or small business ideas

This course also supports learners who want to build confidence, refine their sewing practice and enjoy working on more advanced projects.

-Not in paid employment and receive means tested benefit: please bring with you current dated benefit documentation.
-In paid employment but an annual gross salary of less than £25,000: please bring your wage slips dated within 3 months of the start of the course
