Springboard

Springboard

Department Information

Springboard at Tameside College is a supportive introduction or return to college life for young people who would benefit from building confidence, routine and the skills needed for their next step. Rather than focusing on one industry, the programme helps learners discover their strengths and develop important personal, social and employability skills in an encouraging environment. Activities may include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, budgeting, healthy living, cooking, personal development and opportunities to explore different career interests. English and maths form an important part of learning, helping students build qualifications and practical skills they can use in everyday life, future study and work.

The programme combines classroom-based learning with real-world activities and experiences in the local community. Students can also benefit from college support services, Learning Hubs and opportunities to become familiar with the wider college environment. Teaching and support staff help learners develop resilience, independence and a clearer sense of what they want to do next.

Springboard does not prepare students for one specific job. Instead, it can provide a foundation for a Level 1 vocational course, volunteering, entry-level employment or, for eligible students with an education, health and care plan, a supported internship. If you are ready to move forward but would value extra guidance and time to settle into learning, Springboard can help you build that confidence.
