When you apply for a position with Tameside College the decision as to whether to
invite you for an interview is based solely on the information contained on your
completed application form. It is essential that your application form contains
all the information we need to make a decision. If you have any difficulties in
understanding or completing the form, please contact the HR Department who will
be happy to help and give advice.
Job Description
All posts within the College have a job description which outlines the following:
- Job title
- The main purpose of the post
- Its position within the organisation
- The main duties and responsibilities and accountabilities
Person Specification
The person specification describes the skills, experience, qualifications and abilities
which are needed to do the job. It is a statement of the minimum essential criteria
requirements of the position and forms the basis against which all applications
are judged. You must clearly show on your application how your skills, abilities
etc. meet the requirements of the post. It is not enough to say that you meet the
criteria – you must explain how you met the criteria by providing evidence from
your previous experience. You may find it helpful to organise your information under
the headings used in the essential/desirable criteria rather than reporting details
of your employment history.
When you seek to demonstrate your abilities in respect of the person specification
it is not necessary for all your skills/knowledge and experience to have come from
paid employment – you can use examples from voluntary work or other activities.
Applications which fail to meet the essential requirements for the post will not
be invited for interview.
For administrative convenience please complete the application form in either BLACK
INK or TYPEWRITTEN FORMAT. Please note that applications received after the closing
date may not be eligible for consideration.
It is hoped that this brief guide will allow you as an applicant to present sufficient
detailed information in a format which will allow your application to progress.
If you have any queries about this process or any other aspects of Recruitment and
Selection you may contact the Human Resources Team at the Ashton Centre either in
writing or by telephoning 0161 908 6600. Members of staff in the department will
be pleased to give advice or information which may assist you.
