Students are ahead of the game- Annual Hair Competition 2010

The Elysium Centre recently hosted the annual Hair Competition 2010 at Tameside College.

All the students in the Hair and Beauty department prepared for the competition by practising hair styles, make up and nail art on models leading up to the event. Students took part in competitions which involved presenting their designs for bridal hair, commercial blow dry, cut and finish, ladies evening style and a skills challenge.

Kelly McNielly, Georgina Woodward and Holly Garvey won awards in Haute Couture Levels 1, 2 & 3 respectively. Rebecca Jones, Alyssia Garside and Charley Petrie won awards for the best nail work in the categories of Pink and White Gel, Pink and White Acrylic and Carnival Nails. The winners of the 'Total Look' category (based on the theme of carnivals) were Gemma Berry, Sarah Johnson, Laura Palmer, Tammy McDonagh, Meghan McConnell and Jenny Barnes.

Curriculum leader in Hairdressing, Kath McKay commented, "Learners were dedicated and worked hard to achieve their total look. The teams put some imaginative ideas together ranging from Venetian Carnival and the circus. The beauty therapy students also put together some fantastic ideas and imaginative creations with their nail competitions and catwalk make up."
