Apprenticeships helped employer scoop award

Stalybridge Post Office scooped second place for the National Apprenticeship: Small Business Employer of the Year Award after employing their first Apprentice through Tameside College.

In addition to this, it is likely there will be a National Programme rolled out across several Post Offices across the country, allowing them to employ and support an apprentice.

Stalybridge Post Office employed Level three Accounting Apprentice, Lauren Beresford over 18 months ago, where she has continued to impress manager, Brenda Brooks. Following Lauren’s successful apprenticeship she has now secured a role as Assistant Manager at the Post Office.

Stalybridge Post Office Manager Brenda said; “When Lauren joined I was delighted at her attitude and approach to her work. Lauren immediately suggested new ideas on how things were done in the Post Office and has since been promoted to Assistant Manager. Lauren’s success has influenced the Post Office’s approach to taking on Apprentices, we haven’t kept Lauren’s success here a secret and now a national programme may be put in place because of Lauren’s success.”

Lauren commented; “I liked that you could earn while you learn with an apprenticeship and I wanted to make something of my life. I was so pleased that we were awarded second place for the National Apprenticeship Award – I didn’t expect this as there were over 40 companies competing for it.”
