The average starting salary for a qualified Dental Nurse is around £16,500 a year. Experience as a Dental Nurse is a good preparation if you want to move into working as a Dental Hygienist or Dental Therapist. Career opportunities can be pursued at general dental practices, hospitals, community dental service, in industry and with universities.
The role of a Dental Nurse typically includes:
• Providing patient care and support in surgery.
• Preparing and sterilizing instruments.
• Providing assistance during treatments.
• Preparing materials e.g. to make fillings.
• Assisting to keep patient records up to date.
You may also provide assistance in the reception area, booking appointments, taking payments for treatment and greeting and reassuring patients. As a Dental Nurse you will need to have a calm and reassuring manner and have good team working skills.
