Students make new reading area for primary children

Construction students worked together across joinery and painting and decorating to build The Ferns Primary Academy a brand new reading corner fence.

After being contacted by staff at The Ferns Primary Academy to help develop an idea for one of their classrooms, joinery students were briefed on what dimensions the fence needed to be and set to work on the project. Joinery and carpentry students made the fence panels whilst painting and decorating students added a special touch, painting the fence an array of fun colours.

Dean Donelon, carpentry and joinery teacher at Tameside College, said: “Tasks like this are great for our students because they get to practise the skills they are learning at college whilst having fun working on a new project. We hope the children enjoy their new reading corner as the students really enjoyed making it for them.”

Debra Murphy, Principal of The Ferns Primary Academy, said: “We’d like to thank Tameside College students for the reading corner fence they have made for our school. Examples of such contributions have helped to develop the learning environment for our children and are much appreciated.”
