Students style fairytale characters

Hair and media make-up students from Tameside College had the honour of being ask to be the hair stylists for a special fairytale inspired production called, ‘Into the Woods’ by Hyde Festival Theatre.

Students were approached by Lynn Philips, Chair of the Hyde Society to put together looks for cast members which involved styling a series of wigs for all the different characters in the show including, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and little red riding hood.

Michelle Pedley, hairdressing teacher at Tameside College, said: “It’s great experience for the students to be part of a professional production with the Hyde Festival Theatre. They have gained real hands on experience having to get cast members ready in time for the performance. The students have done really well and I’m proud of how professional they have been under such pressure in the week leading up to opening night.”

Megan Thornley, one of the hair and media make-up students who worked on the production, said: “It was a really good experience working on, ‘Into the Woods’ and we enjoyed the challenge working on the looks for the cast using different wigs. It was great to get a feel for what the industry will be like when we finish college. We also had the opportunity to pass one of the assessments on our course and were delighted to add the fairytale looks we had created to our professional portfolios of work.”
