Proud graduates celebrate their achievements

It was hats off to graduates at Tameside College’s higher education graduation on Wednesday 19th December.
Friends, family members, teachers and VIPs gathered in the Brooke Vincent theatre at Clarendon Sixth Form College to celebrate their achievements.
Dr David Powell, director of the education consortium at the University of Huddersfield, attended the event as guest speaker.
Dr Powell, said: “I may work for a university today, however my career is rooted in the further education sector and I know for a fact that colleges make a huge difference to people’s lives every day. I was looking at some research recently and it said that higher education graduates benefit society, and not just in the traditional sense, they are more likely to vote, more likely to donate to charity, exercise more and smoke less.”
“You can all be proud that through your hard work, alongside having to manage your careers and family lives, this will no doubt benefit you for the rest of your lives. Congratulations and I wish you all the very best for your futures.”
Jackie Moores, principal at Tameside College, said: “This event is designed to celebrate the pride that we, your teachers, family, friends and colleagues, all feel in you coming this far. But this isn’t where you stop learning, in fact this is where you start and that is the key to success. I hope that you have all enjoyed your time with us and I’d like to say a massive congratulations to you all.”
With the demand for higher level skills by employers at an all-time high, Tameside College is expanding its higher education offering to include new facilities and courses that reflect the needs of students. It’s hoped that this strategy will improve job prospects and economic prosperity in the local area.
