Tameside One is a big hit with college students

Tameside College students are looking forward to a bright future as they settle into their new home at Tameside One.  The campus will provide current and future students with one of the best learning resources in Greater Manchester in specialist subjects including: hospitality and catering, bakery, travel and tourism, hair and beauty, and business.

Students, who have transferred from the college’s Beaufort Road campus, have been settling into their new surroundings by inviting Jackie Moores, Principal, Tameside College, to join them in their classes. Students were able to show off their skills in cake and chocolate making, media makeup, flight safety, and restaurant management.

Jackie Moores said: “It is great to see the students adapting to their new environment at Tameside One so quickly.  The new facilities are fantastic and will give students, with the support from their teachers, an excellent opportunity to develop and grow.  We aim to provide the very best for our students and the facilities at Tameside One will help us fulfil our aspirations.”

Tameside One is part of the Vision Tameside project, in partnership with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, which has already delivered Clarendon Sixth Form College and the Advanced Technologies Centre.  In 2020 Tameside College will open a brand new Construction Centre at its Beaufort Road site.

Jackie continued:  “A key strength of the college, recognised by Ofsted, is to develop a curriculum that reflects the needs of growing employment sectors.  The development of our campus will give teenagers living in Tameside the opportunity to gain skills and qualifications for long-term careers. We aim to develop the best further education campus in Greater Manchester.”

Service sector skills are in high demand across Greater Manchester as the city region enjoys increased growth in leisure and tourism and the location in the heart of Ashton town centre will provide the perfect customer experience for students.

A new library and customer services for Tameside Council has already opened at Tameside One alongside Citizens Advice, Cash Box, Welfare Rights and Jobcentre Plus. New retail space for Wilko will open later in the year.

Tameside Council Executive Leader Councillor Brenda Warrington said: “I’m delighted that Tameside’s young people now have access to the state-of-the-art facilities in the new Tameside College building at Tameside One and I can’t wait to see what they will go on to achieve.”

“Our young people deserve the best possible educational facilities and Tameside One provides this alongside excellent transport connections with trains, trams, buses and cycle storage and the new Ashton Interchange due to provide an attractive gateway.”
