Female Futsal team crowned national champions

The first ever female futsal team at Tameside College celebrate success after being crowned Association of Colleges national champions.

Futsal is a modified form of soccer, played with five players per side on a smaller, typically indoor, pitch.

The female futsal championships were held to show what AoC League competitions have to offer, as a campaign to engage more women in sports.

Held at three college campuses from September 2019 to February 2020, Ashton Sixth Form College, Stoke College and Wolverhampton College were all up against Tameside College, but it was Tameside College who came out on top in the competition.

Dean Ashton, coach of the futsal team said: "This was the first year Tameside College entered a women’s team into the National Futsal Championships, which was a whole new experience for some of theplayers, who were used to playing 11 -a-side football. The team performed exceptionally well winning the majority of their games and only losing one game to Stoke.

They have now set the benchmark for new futsal teams at Tameside College to achieve similar success.”

The team, consisting of: Ennie Louis, Nikita Mason, Tia Derbyshire, Mia Knight, Leah Davis, Codey Bagulley, competed against three other UK colleges.
