Tameside College builds for the future

A brand new £11m construction development is taking shape to support the future skills and training in Greater Manchester’s key sectors.

The Construction Skills Centre at Tameside College aims to support the future demand for key trades such as: bricklayers, plumbers, electricians, painter and decorators and civil engineers. The building has been designed in consultation with employers and will transform the campus at Beaufort Road.

The steel signing ceremony marks the latest stage of the college’s ambitious plans to redevelop its estate. Under the Vision Tameside banner, in partnership with Tameside Council, the college has invested in its campus to deliver courses and training at: Clarendon Sixth Form College, Advanced Technologies Centre and Tameside One.

The Construction Skills Centre, which is being constructed by Willmott Dixon and is due to open in late 2021, will further enhance the education and training opportunities for people in the borough of Tameside and surrounding areas.

Jackie Moores said: “I am delighted that the Construction Skills Centre build is well under way and the steel signing ceremony is a major step in the college’s plans for futureproofing our estate. This space will allow students and apprentices access to the best equipment, resources and learning environments, whilst boosting the college’s links with employers in the sector.

“The construction trades are always in demand and this is only going to grow in the future. We are excited to be a part of this trend and the benefits this will bring to the local area.”

Anthony Dillon, managing director in the north at Willmott Dixon, said: “We are very proud to be playing our part in creating these exciting new facilities. Our industry needs more skilled people and this building is an outstanding example of how industry and educators can work together to fulfil this.”

Matthew Hirst, director at Fusion Project Management, said: “Fusion is delighted to continue working with the college on the renewal and transformation of its estate.  Once complete, the new Construction Skills Centre will be a fantastic addition to the range of specialist resources the College has to offer for young people and the wider community.”
