Industry expert ‘flies in’ to give students insight into travel careers

Travel and tourism students at Tameside College experience a day with a difference with visit by prestigious airline.

Laura Booth, a flight service manager for airline Virgin Atlantic, visited the college to give students an insight into the industry.

Laura, who is a former travel and tourism student at the college, spoke to students about her career path, what her job role with Virgin Atlantic entails and how students can improve their career prospects before leaving the college.

During her visit, Laura also helped to conduct mock interviews with students to give them an opportunity to hone their employability skills and learn about the recruitment process at the airline.

Flight service managers are senior members of the cabin crew team on board a flight and manage everything from in flight catering to emergency procedures.

Alongside Laura’s visit, students were also recently visited by cabin crew members Shannon and Jenson from Ryanair, who also talked about their careers and conducted mock interviews with students.

Carol Lawless, travel and tourism teacher at Tameside College, said: “I’d like to thank Laura for visiting the students, it was really inspiring and informative for them to learn all about Virgin Atlantic. Experiences such as this help them to understand their chosen career and develop the key still they will need for when they enter the industry. Well done to the students who did an amazing job during their mock interviews.”
