Auto students experience international industry day

Tameside College students experience latest technology with visit from international employers.

Automotive students at the college recently spent the day with apprentices and staff from LHS Autos, a worldwide Mercedes Benz car dealership and WPC group, an Australian apprenticeship provider.

The apprentices, who are currently in the UK as part of a cultural exchange programme, visited the college to demonstrate the latest technology being used by Mercedes on their vehicles in garages. The visit also allowed Tameside College students to learn about how the industry differs abroad and learn new skills.

The students were split into groups and took part in a variety of activities including a fault finding task using diagnostic computers, a quiz on MOT requirements for UK and Australian procedures cars and a Q&A with the LHS Autos apprentices.

Activities such as this provide vital experience for students planning to work in the industry, alongside studying in the college’s brand new state of the art Automotive Centre.

Nicola Murphy, work experience coordinator at Tameside College, said: “This visit has been an incredible opportunity for our students to see first hand the latest advancements in automotive technology and to understand how their skills can be applied on an international level. Collaborating with LHS Autos and WPC Group not only broadens their technical knowledge but also gives them insight into global industry standards and practices. This experience will be invaluable as they prepare to enter a dynamic and ever evolving sector.”
