Students lend a helping hand raising vital funds

Tameside College students help local charity raise vital funds with themed event.

Hospitality and catering students from the college recently supported the "Willow Wood Does Strictly" charity event, at George Lawton Hall in Mossley.

Students played a crucial role in the event’s success, which was organised to raise funds for Willow Wood Hospice. They took on various responsibilities, from designing the layout to preparing and serving food.

The event raised a total of £17,000 for Willow Wood Hospice, which will allow the hospice continue its work in the community, providing essential care and support for those in need.

Debbie Higginbottom, employability team leader at Tameside College, said: “It was fantastic that the college was able to support a local charity to raise money for a very worthy cause. Willow Wood is at the heart of the community. Students gave up their Friday evening to offer support and join in the celebrations. Thank you to everyone who contributed and well done to the students who took part.”

Participating in the event offered students the opportunity to develop essential skills in teamwork, event management, and customer service, whilst giving back to the community.

Vanessa Murphy-Wood, events and community fundraiser for Willow Wood Hospice, said: “The students’ involvement really made a difference and helped make the night a big success. We are over the moon to share that we raised so much. Thank you to everyone at Tameside College for your incredible support, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
