Tameside College teacher trainees enhance skills at university education conference
Initial teacher education (ITE) students from the college recently attended the Huddersfield University ITE Specialist Conference, joining over 400 fellow trainees and university educators for a day of professional development and networking.
The conference, which took place on 26th April 2025, provided trainees with a unique opportunity to share their experiences, connect with peers from across the region and reflect on their teaching journeys.
Attendees also had the chance to hear from keynote speaker Geoffrey Barker, an education specialist and authority in the field of teacher training.
Tameside College is a member of Huddersfield University’s Education and Training Consortium, a partnership which provides training to thousands of trainee teachers across the north of England.
Ellis Rigby, engineering teacher at Tameside College, said: “It’s been a fantastic opportunity for them to build confidence, exchange ideas and prepare for their future careers. Many have said it has provided a much needed boost as they approach the end of their studies.”
Vicki Birchwood, head of department for access to HE at Tameside College, added: “This type of activity is essential for developing the skills and mindset needed for a successful teaching career. It’s given trainees the inspiration and motivation to finish the academic year strong.”
Experiences like this are an important part of Tameside College’s commitment to supporting trainee teachers as they build the skills and confidence needed for a successful career in education.
