Bakery students from Tameside College walk away with haul of prizes during national bakery competition.
Students recently took in the Alliance for Bakery Students and Trainees (ABST) annual conference competition, at Alton Towers.
Students spent two days at the event, which sees students from colleges, universities and training organisations from across the UK competing to demonstrate their skills, workshops and talks by experts in the industry and a black tie presentation dinner.
In total, students from the college were awarded five 1st places, five 2nd places and six 3rd places during the competition, including in the prestigious President’s Cup and Founder’s Cup.
The competition is a vital part of students’ training during their studies, giving them the confidence and professional networks to develop their career.
Stella Clarke, bakery teacher at Tameside College, said: “This is an amazing experience for the students, the conference provides them with opportunities for professional and personal development and life changing experiences. I am really proud that they have come away with so many prizes and this shows their hard work and the college’s position as a leading provider of bakery training. Well done to all of our students involved.”
Sireen Hussain, bakery apprentice at Tameside College, said: “This conference has opened my eyes to the amount of different career paths and roles in the baking industry. I have had the best weekend and it was really a proud moment to take second place in the fondant fancies category.”
