Alex’s cooking skills impress on national TV

Alex Worsley, a hospitality and catering student at Tameside College, impresses in well known TV cookery series.
Alex, who is a former Alder Community High School pupil, recently took part in ‘Come Dine With Me: Teens’ on Channel 4.
Come Dine With Me: Teens is a spin off of the popular cooking and dining series Come Dine With Me, featuring young chefs aged 13-19. Contestants host dinner parties in their homes, competing to impress their peers and the show’s judges with their cooking and hospitality skills.
Alex applied for the show after seeing a post on social media. Following a competitive selection process that included five interviews and 20,000 applicants, Alex was chosen to appear on the programme.
During filming at his home, Alex created a full menu from scratch, including locally sourced produce, supporting British farming. His dishes included: homemade pitta bread with dips, beef burgers in brioche buns with triple cooked chips and blackberry and apple crumble with homemade ice cream.
After impressing his guests, Alex took joint first place in the competition and has since used the money to invest in cooking equipment to further develop his skills.
Alex said: “I try to take every opportunity I can and loved the experience. It was great to push myself out of my comfort zone. I’m really pleased to win, but I would have been happy with the outcome regardless. I enjoy cooking for my family and experimenting with new dishes and I want to turn that into a career creating menus and exploring food in new ways.”
Damian Cox head of department for hospitality and catering at Tameside College, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Alex for his achievements and it was amazing to see him cooking on national TV! His passion for hospitality and willingness to embrace opportunities are exactly what aim to encourage at the college. Experiences like this give students the chance to develop their skills, creativity and confidence and Alex has shown that he has all of these qualities. I am looking forward to following his career in the future.”
