Former student at Tameside College is now a rising star in the bakery and patisserie industry.
Seren Cox, a former Glossopdale Secondary School pupil and bakery student at Tameside College is looking forward to a bright career after her latest achievement.
Seren, who is currently completing a bakery and patisserie technology degree at University College Birmingham, was recently selected as a student ambassador for Dawn Foods, a partner of the university.
The prestigious programme, which is only offered to three students nationwide, will see Seren working with industry professionals on recipes, blog creation and commercial product development within the industry.
Since beginning her studies with Tameside College, Seren has gained valuable experience; spending two weeks working at The Baker Valencia as well as John Street Bakery and Brutally Honest Bakery. She has also been awarded various prizes in competitions such as the Alliance for Bakery Students Annual Conference, Cake & Bake International and a macaron competition, hosted at the college.
Seren said: “I learned many valuable skills during my time at Tameside College, which have helped me get to where I am today. The course taught me the fundamentals of baking as well as how to write academic assignments, giving me both practical and academic confidence. I am grateful for the many opportunities I was given. These experiences and the knowledge I gained gave me the confidence to continue my baking journey and further develop my skills. My advice to other students would be to take advantage of as many opportunities as possible, especially the work experience opportunities provided. Continue practising, experimenting with new products and developing your skills and most importantly, don’t give up.”
Damian Cox, head of department for hospitality, catering and bakery at Tameside College, said: “We are incredibly proud of Seren and everything she has achieved since studying at the college. Her passion for baking, commitment to developing her skills and willingness to take on new challenges are fantastic examples of what students can achieve when they make the most of the opportunities available to them. We look forward to seeing where her career takes her in the future.”
