Careers and employability events connect students to industry

Tameside College and Clarendon Sixth Form College students take part in careers and employability events to explore the opportunities available post-further education.

The events, which took place across the college’s three main campuses on Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th March, gave students the opportunity to meet a wide range of employers, universities and other organisations and to learn more about their careers programmes.

As the event took place during the college’s equality, diversity and inclusion week and close to International Women’s Day, a key theme focused on inspiring female students to consider job roles in traditionally male dominated sectors.

Employers attending included Amazon Web Services, Leonardo Hotels, Urban Green Architects, Balfour Beatty, Northern Trains, Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation, Active Tameside, Willow Wood Hospice and many more. Universities supporting the event included MMU, Edge Hill, Huddersfield University and UA92.

During the event, students also had the opportunity to attend STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and AI focused talks by organisations such as Amazon, Brabners Solicitors, Aecom and the NHS.

Debbie Higginbottom, team leader for employability and industry placements, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with employers from different industries. It gave them the chance to discuss key employability skills, understand what employers are looking for in their future workforce and support their personal development. It was great to see so many taking part in interactive activities and exploring work placement opportunities. We are looking forward to next year and to continuing to grow our employer network.”

Leigh Lawler, managing director of Lawler & Co Sales and Lettings, said: “It was fantastic to connect with local employers and support Tameside College whilst engaging with eager students. Together, we can inspire future careers.”
