‘College to careers’ event highlights opportunities available to engineering students

Tameside College hosts taster day for students to gain insight into studying higher level qualifications, in partnership with Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT).

Engineering students from the college took part in a ‘college to careers’ event on Thursday 16th April, to learn more about the college’s higher education offer in an engaging and exciting way.

During the event, students took part in a range of activities including; a science, technology, engineering and Maths (STEM) activities session using programmable Lego Spike kits, a HE taster session in the college’s state of the art robotics and pneumatics room, a presentation from GMIoT staff and a talk by Aimee Slater from Siemens UK, on careers in the sector.

Tameside College, in partnership with GMIoT, offers a range of higher education qualifications across computing (cyber security), electronic engineering and mechanical engineering.

This is the second year that the ‘college to careers’ event has been hosted by Tameside College, after receiving positive feedback from previous participants.

Matt Snowdon, higher education quality officer at Tameside College, said: “I was extremely pleased to see how successful the college to career event was and how many students were engaging with the activities on offer. These type of events allow us to showcase the range of higher education qualifications available for our students, whilst also giving them hands on exposure to the career routes that they can progress into.”
