Hospice recognises college’s charity support

Students and staff recognised by Willow Wood Hospice for volunteering and fundraising support over the last year.

Lisa Pye, volunteer services manager at Willow Wood Hospice, presented a certificate of thanks to students and the college’s employability team ahead of National Volunteers’ Week, which takes places between 1st-7th June.

Throughout the year, students from across the curriculum have undertaken volunteering and work placement opportunities with Willow Wood Hospice, helping to support fundraising events, retail operations and community projects.

Activities included a fundraising fashion show which raised £820 for the charity, participation in the hospice's annual flower festival, refurbishment of office spaces and a variety of work experience placements with students from computing, travel, floristry, construction, public services and health and social care.

The partnership has provided students with valuable real world experience whilst supporting the work of the hospice, which provides vital palliative care across the Tameside area and relies heavily on charity fundraising to continue its operations.

Debbie Higginbottom, employability team leader at Tameside College, said: "We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition from Willow Wood Hospice. The partnership provides our students with valuable opportunities to develop their confidence and make a meaningful contribution to a fantastic local charity. It has been wonderful to see students from so many different curriculum areas get involved and we look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Willow Wood Hospice in the future."

Lisa Pye, volunteer services manager at Willow Wood Hospice, said: “Collaborating with younger people in our community has made a huge difference to the hospice. We were delighted to recognise the team at Tameside College for their ongoing commitment to volunteering and work placements, which create valuable opportunities for students while supporting our charity. The enthusiasm and hard work shown by students and staff throughout the year has made a lasting impact and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership in the future.”
