A Level Geography
Course content & format
This is a part of the full time A level study programme. You will sit an exam at the end of the two year course; you must pass all the exams to gain the qualification. You will also submit a Non Examined Assessment folder which shows evidence of individual fieldwork. The guidance is that this is 3000-4000 words. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, case studies, assessments, group work, practical work, projects, extended writing and interactive activities.
Throughout the course you will study 4 components in total. These will include the topics:
Changing Landscapes, Changing Places, Global Governance, Global Systems, Optional themes, Fieldwork
Your learning experience
The topics covered are relevant and link to many topical news issues. The nature of the subject is dynamic and requires an up-to-date interest in the world around us. The course will include day trip fieldwork visits and an optional residential course to a UK location, and further afield.
How is this course assessed?
● You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and timed assessments throughout the course.
● There are 3 written examinations in year 2.
● A mandatory part of your course is the coursework folder of individual fieldwork.
What can I do next?
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:
● Degree level study of Geography, Environmental Science, or another related subject.
● Geography can be studied to degree level as a BA or BSc.
● It also provides you with useful and transferable skills which can be appropriate to many other areas of study or employment.
● Apprenticeships or higher level apprenticeships
