Level 1 Floristry
Course content & format
This is a full - time study programme. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles, for example, producing portfolios, assessments, group work, practical work, projects, interactive activities and written work.
During the course, you will study the following subjects.
· Care and conditioning of flowers
· Flower identification
· Health and safety
· Display
· Tied floral designs
· Floral arrangements
· Wired floral designs
Your learning experience
Floristry is a creative and varied subject with a strong focus on practical skills. You will gain subject knowledge that can be put into practice by learning how to plan, prepare for and construct floral designs.
You will be asked to sketch your design ideas, before creating them and photographing them to create a portfolio of evidence. You will then be asked to evaluate your design and decide whether it would sell commercially.
You will learn industry-based knowledge on how to care for and identify flowers and how to work safely within a workplace. You will be given the opportunity to support events at the college with your floral designs and assist in running the college floristry shop. This will mean learning how to deal with customers, how to handle money and also how to take orders correctly.
We work with many local organisations to provide flowers for events and occasions, giving us opportunity to simulate a real work environment with real clients. This allows you to see how your work can be received in reality and you can take pride in what you have achieved.
