ESOL Step 3
Course content & format
This course spans six weeks with students attending twice a week. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles for example, group work, practical work, basic writing and interactive activities.
Throughout the course you will study various units. These include:
Making emergency calls, English in my home, popular celebrations, food, money and currency, British homes, neighbourhood, regions and dialect, professions and services in our area.
Your learning experience
This course will support students to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills needed to live in Britain. It will also help you to;
· Be able to describe your local area, including places to see and visit, and how to give directions.
· Expand your understanding of words and their use in sentences by participating in group discussions and talking about your favourite shops.
· Develop a deeper understanding of adverbs of frequency, practice using them in sentences and engage in group discussions about shopping while incorporating adverbs of frequency.
· Understand English currency and how to check your change in a shop.
· Gain knowledge about different types of food, focusing on quantities, price labels, and packaging. Participate in group discussions about special offers, as well as the various signs used in different store departments to help navigate and understand promotions.
· Learn a wide range of clothing vocabulary, identify different types of clothing and discuss pricing. Practice describing clothes using adjectives, ask questions about clothing sizes, prices and explore how sizes relate to fit and measurements.

How is this course assessed?
You will be assessed at the beginning of the course through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, written, spoken and listening work and practical assessments. If you need extra support, we may suggest a course to complete before this course to build your skills and confidence.
What can I do next?
· On completion of the ‘ESOL Step 3’ course, you will be able to move onto the following course in the suite of courses offered – ‘ESOL Step up to Skills 1’.
· Following completion of this course, not only will you be able to continue on to the further ESOL courses offered at the college, but you will also be able to take a variety of other community learning courses offered at the college.

These courses are tailored for adult learners, no matter your employment status, but if you are: -Not in paid employment and receive means tested benefit: please bring with you current dated benefit documentation. -In paid employment but an annual gross salary of less than £25,000: please bring your wage slips dated within 3 months of the start of the course
