Cyber Security

This is a part time study programme for ten weeks from 10/9/24 to 7/01/25 on a Tuesday afternoon from 14:00 – 17:00 hours. You will learn what cyber security is and its impact on you and your business. You will understand common threats, attacks and vulnerabilities. You will gain an insight on how to protect your business from potential attacks.

You will explore why technology is a target for cybercrime including email correspondence, financial transactions and collaborative work documents. You will master the categorisation of passive and active attacks, types of current and emerging threats and hazards for example phishing, password attacks and SQL injection attacks. You will move on to examine the effectiveness of information assurance concepts applied to ICT infrastructure including common vulnerabilities in networks and systems.

You will be involved in a variety of interactive teaching methods from our expert staff. By the end of this course, you will be well placed to apply this knowledge to protect your business. You will also be able to progress onto more technically advanced cyber security certificates at college including networking and strategic information systems.

Throughout the course you will study a variety of learning outcomes. These include:

The nature of cybercrime and cyber threat actors, cyber security threats and hazards, the effectiveness of information assurance concepts applied to ICT infrastructure, investigate incident response methods to cyber security threats and examine the effectiveness of information assurance concepts apple to ICT infrastructure.
You will be taking part in tasks that are informed by tech companies and designed to help you develop the practical and vocationally relevant skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, communication and risk management.

You will improve your employability through the skills you acquire during tasks and you will have the opportunity to access our online learning platform, extensive college facilities, and Tutors with expert and up to date knowledge in Cybersecurity.
There are no formal entry requirements, just a keen interest to learn more about cybersecurity.
●  You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including practical tasks, discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, and occasional written work.
On successful completion of this qualification, you can progress onto:

●  Cyber Security (Networking)

●  Cyber Security (Strategic Information Systems)

●  Full time study on HTQ in Computing
