This is a part time study programme delivered 09/09/25 – 19/01/26 on a Wednesday Evening from 17:00 – 21:00 hours.
Throughout the course you will study a variety of learning outcomes. These include:
Exploring the impact of sustainability principles and theories on organisations and communities. Explaining the process required to develop sustainability strategies in organisations. Appraising the role of sustainability practitioners and responsibilities for stakeholder management and comparing ways organisations identify, influence, and collaborate with sustainability partners.
Sustainability is no longer just a corporate buzzword; it is a fundamental business need. As organisations worldwide face growing pressure from stakeholders, regulators, and consumers to act responsibly, integrating sustainability into core business strategies has become essential. This unit provides an in-depth exploration of sustainability principles, equipping students and professionals with the knowledge and skills to drive meaningful environmental, social, and economic impact.
Throughout the course you will:
Understand Sustainability Principles & Theories through the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic. Explore key milestones in global sustainability efforts. Evaluate corporate responsibility and the triple bottom line approach and investigate economic theories related to sustainability, from Adam Smith to Milton Friedman.
Develop Sustainable Business Strategies by embedding sustainability into corporate vision and values. Investigate the drivers influencing sustainability adoption: regulation, reputation, and risk management. Use Tools and frameworks such as UN Global Compact, ISO 14001, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and Fair-Trade Certifications while Avoiding ‘greenwashing’ and ensuring transparency through credible reporting frameworks.
Evaluate the Role of Sustainability Practitioners by identifying key responsibilities of sustainability leaders in an organisation. Explore Stakeholder engagement through working with employees, customers, governments, and NGOs. Create impact-driven initiatives that align with business and community needs and investigate communication strategies for sustainability advocacy.
Building Partnerships for Sustainability by identifying and evaluating sustainability partners. Understand the importance of collaboration in driving systemic change. Explore the challenges in stakeholder relationships and conflict resolution strategies. Examine case studies of successful sustainability partnerships in various industries.
