Introduction to Sewing (Adults)

This is a 12-week part-time course for adult learners, delivered in 2-hour weekly sessions. It is designed to build confidence and practical skills. The course focuses on technical sewing techniques, understanding materials, and product creation.

You will learn through hands-on practical work, demonstrations, sample making, and discussions around industry application. Each week builds skills toward creating your own products.

Throughout the course you will cover:

· Machine skills and safety

· Stitch types and seam finishes

· Fabric knowledge and handling

· Fastenings and garment components

· Understanding patterns
This course is ideal if you are looking to gain hands-on sewing experience supported by industry experienced staff in professional design studios. It’s suitable for complete beginners or those with limited experience.

· Opportunity to showcase your work and receive a certificate of completion
Entry Level (Foundation)

No formal entry requirements. Enthusiasm and commitment to learning are essential.
You will be assessed through ongoing tutor feedback, practical task completion, and a final showcase of your finished products.

Technical File to demonstrate techniques developed across the course.

Peer feedback and tutor reflection throughout.
On successful completion of this course, you may progress onto:

· Intermediate sewing or garment construction courses

· Enterprise start-up and selling work at local markets or through online platforms (e.g. Etsy)

· Employment in alterations, tailoring, or sewing production roles

· Further adult learning opportunities

If you meet the unemployed* criteria or are employed^ where the earnings threshold applies, and you need to study at Entry or Level 1 to progress to Level 2, tuition fees will be waived.
