Intermediate Sewing (Adults)

This is a 12-week part-time course designed for adult learners who already have basic sewing experience. The course focuses on developing more advanced skills in garment construction and pattern adaptation, ideal for learners aiming to move into employment, freelance work, or small business development.

You will learn through practical workshops, demonstrations, and project-based work. Each session builds toward a final showcase.

Throughout the course you will cover:

· Advanced seam finishes and garment construction techniques

· Pattern reading, modification, and garment fitting

· Operating and maintaining overlockers and industrial machines
This course helps you take your sewing to a professional level, with a focus on consistency, finishing, and production:

· Use both domestic and industrial sewing equipment including overlockers

· Explore tailored garment elements like structured collars

· Adapt commercial patterns and tailor clothing to fit

· Develop a final product

· Final peer showcase and tutor feedback
There are no formal entry qualifications for this course.

Learners should have basic sewing machine experience and be able to confidently complete simple sewing projects independently.
· Continuous practical assessment through skill-building activities and tutor feedback

· Completion of a final garment with supporting technical documentation

· Peer critique and individual reflection session throughout

This is a non-accredited course, but learners will receive a certificate of achievement on completion.
On successful completion of this qualification, you can progress onto:

· Advanced garment construction or fashion design courses

· Business enterprise workshops

· Selling handmade products online or at local craft fairs

· Employment in garment production, tailoring, or fashion support roles

· Apprenticeships in textiles, tailoring, or garment technolog
