Level 2 Light Vehicle Service and Maintencance Technicians
This qualification is for those individuals who are looking to work in the transport industry specifically as a light vehicle technician.
A light vehicle technician has the skills and knowledge to inspect, service and repair light vehicles. Learners will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge that are important when working as a light vehicle technician or progressing to further learning and training in this area.
This qualification has been designed with the involvement of a range of technical subject matter experts and employers to ensure it meets the needs of the occupation. The qualification aligns to the City & Guilds Level 2 extended technical occupational entry for light vehicle service and maintenance technicians and will provide employers with reliable evidence of a learner’s attainment against occupational standard knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) which form the minimum requirements for entry into occupation
Structure: To achieve the City & Guilds Level 2 Extended Technical Occupational Entry Light Vehicle for Service and Maintenance Technicians (Diploma), learners must achieve:

004 Light vehicle chassis systems
005 Service, maintenance and inspection
006 Vehicle propulsion, internal combustion engine
007 Vehicle propulsion, alternative fuel systems
008 Electrical systems and components
009 Automotive industry and careers
Leaners must complete 5 practical tasks under assessment conditions. (Pass/fail)
Learners will be required to complete 16 hours of work experience (Learner to organise location)
● Work in our new fantastic Automotive Skills Centre (ASC).
● Train with an industry professional mechanic on real vehicles and training rigs.
● Learn industry-recognised maintenance and repair procedures.
● Learn how to use a wide range of workshop equipment, including a range of the latest Halfords tools, Nussbaum 2-post and 4-post ramps and Jacks, Hoffmann tyre changing machines and wheel balancing systems. Block Automotive purpose-built rigs for repairing engines, diagnosing, and fixing brakes and suspension faults.
● You will need to undertake work experience whilst on course. All placements are organised and arranged by our specialist employability team.
● You will gain sector-specific knowledge and experience from guest speakers and educational visits from our industry partners and suppliers
● This practical and academic qualification will give you the knowledge and skills to move forward towards your goal.
You will be interviewed for this course, you should be enthusiastic about working in the Automotive maintenance service and repair sector and able to participate in manual work experience. It is advisable for you to carry out research into the role prior to interview.

On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto: Learners who achieve this qualification can directly enter the automotive service sector as a fast fit service and maintenance technician. This qualification will also lead to progression for learners to enrol onto a T Level or an accelerated Level 2 Autocare or Level 3 apprenticeship standard.
