Introduction into Counselling Concepts (Term1)

This short, part-time 5-week course offers an introduction to counselling and what it involves to train in this field. It is designed to give you a realistic insight into counselling skills, personal development, and the expectations of further study.
This is the first course on the training pathway towards becoming a fully qualified professional counsellor offered by Tameside College. You will have the opportunity to explore whether counselling training is right for you, while tutors will also assess your readiness and suitability for progression. Successful completion of this course is intended to support progression onto the Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts; however, progression is not automatic.
You will be interviewed by the subject teachers and should be enthusiastic about wanting to use counselling skills to support others, and demonstrate appropriate levels of maturity and emotional robustness to do so.
All units are assessed internally by subject teachers. Assessment methods will predominantly involve written work, and observation of your use of counselling skills within supportive session with your peers. The course is graded pass/fail.
