Step 2: Talking Together
Course content & format
This is a part time study programme. You will not sit an exam for this course, your progress will be monitored and assessed by your tutor. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods which will aim to meet the needs of each individual and accommodate different learning styles - for example: visual learning; role plays; group work; practical work; spoken, written and listening work; interactive activities.
The content will include: continue to recognise and write the upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet; practice writing the letters formation and the letter sounds; order the alphabet and the numbers in the correct order; say and write own name and address in English.
Your learning experience
If you are someone that is learning English for the first time, and your native language does not use the Roman alphabet – this course is for you. Understanding and speaking English is vital to our lives living in England. This is the starting point, where you will gain the skills necessary to take the first steps in your journey to communicate in English. This practical course will give you the knowledge and skills to understand the fundamentals of the English language; before moving forward and developing further.
The course consists of one morning session each Friday over six weeks.
You will develop the ability to recognise, read, write and say letters of the alphabet; learn to form letters and numbers and to order them correctly; practice saying and writing your name and address; discuss personal information with the group, such as your name, where you are from and where you live. After this, you will be able to use these skills to read and write the beginning letter of words.
By the end of the course, you will be familiar with the format of the following courses and have the confidence and ability to participate in them.
You will get the opportunity to continue to the following ESOL pathway offered by the college and – ultimately – access further/higher education or gain employment.
