Aspirations (B) Foundations for Learning & Life

Aspirations B is a study programme starting at Entry Level 2, designed to support learners with a range of learning needs in achieving the outcomes outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The curriculum is personalised to reflect each learner’s strengths, needs and future goals.

The programme focuses on preparing learners for their next steps, which may include progression into a vocational pathway, supported employment, or increased participation within the community. As part of their preparation for adulthood, learners are supported to:

●  Engage more independently with their local community

●  Develop the knowledge and understanding required to manage their own health and wellbeing

●  Apply and extend independence skills across a wider range of contexts

●  Take part in supported work experience opportunities

●  Build confidence in communication and social interaction

English and Maths are delivered through tailored sessions and are embedded throughout the programme. Learners work towards appropriate qualifications suited to their individual pathways.

Aspirations B is a full-time study programme, typically delivered over one year, with the option to extend depending on individual needs. Learning takes place through a combination of practical and classroom-based activities.

For learners aged 19+, there may be the option of a three-day provision, with a focus on Independence or Employability pathways.
The learning experience in Aspirations B is supportive, structured, and focused on progression, helping learners to build confidence, independence and readiness for adulthood.

Learners are encouraged to build on their existing skills while developing greater independence both at home and in the community. There is a strong emphasis on communication and self-expression, alongside opportunities to apply skills in a range of real-life settings.

Learners develop independence and confidence across a variety of environments, with increasing opportunities to act independently both within college and in the wider community. Key areas of focus include:

●  Self-esteem

●  Communication

●  Personal safety awareness

●  Problem-solving
