Level 2 in Aviation
Course content & format
This course provides learners with the underpinning knowledge of the aviation environment. Through a range of theory and practical elements, learners will develop key knowledge, understanding and skills within ground operations. This one year programme focuses on developing knowledge and understanding of key aviation operations and how they work together to achieve an on time departure. Through a range of different assessment methods, under pinning knowledge will be assessed against industry benchmarks, to ensure learners are equipped with the knowledge and skills to progress into employment or further study.
Throughout the course you will study 11 units in total (units subject to change). These include:
Health and safety in aviation, aviation security, aviation communication, customer service, problem solving, Check in procedures, passenger baggage processing, supporting passengers with special requirements, ground service operations, loading and unloading of aircraft and aircraft marshalling.
Your learning experience
If you are interested within a career on the ground, in the air or behind the scenes this is the course for you. The aviation industry is a fast paced environment, which continues to evolve. You could be working check in at the airport, to managing safety on the ground, operating behind the scenes within baggage, or marshalling an aircraft on stand.
● You will gain sector specific knowledge and experience from educational visits and guest speakers
● Work with employers to develop the skills required to gain employment upon completion of the course.
Entry qualifications
4 GCSE’s grade 3 and above with English and/or Maths. A level 2 qualification in a related subject.
You will be interviewed for this course, should be enthusiastic about working in the travel, tourism and aviation sector and be able to participate in work experience.
How is this course assessed?
● You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, written reports, case studies, presentations and projects. This will be both individually and as a group.
This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*
What can I do next?
On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:
● Level 3 Travel, Tourism or Aviation.
● Employment within the travel, tourism and aviation sector, for example as passenger service agent, check in, load control, ramp agent or other ground operation roles.
