Introduction to Photography (Adults) (Term1)

Discover the basics of photography and begin building confidence with a camera in a supportive and creative environment. This course is designed for absolute beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of photography for personal interest, creative development or as a first step towards further study.

Key areas include:

●  Understanding basic camera functions and settings

●  Learning how to take clear, well-composed photographs

●  Exploring composition, lighting and viewpoint

●  Developing confidence when photographing different subjects

●  Introduction to digital editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom

●  Learning how to review, select and present your best images

Sessions are practical and workshop-based, combining demonstrations, tutor guidance, hands-on photography activities and opportunities to build confidence through simple creative projects.
You will learn in a supportive adult-learning environment with regular tutor feedback and clear guidance to help you improve throughout the course.

Learning is hands-on and project-based, with access to:

●  Digital cameras and photography equipment

●  A professional photography studio with lighting equipment

●  Industry-standard editing software

●  Tutor support to help you develop confidence, creativity and technical understanding

Throughout the course you will develop a basic understanding of photography, improve your confidence in taking pictures and begin to recognise what makes a successful image.
Introduction / Beginner

No formal entry requirements. This course is designed for absolute beginners.

All you need is an interest in photography, a willingness to learn and enthusiasm for trying something new.

Assessment is through practical work completed across the course. There are no formal exams.

You will build a portfolio of photographs, short tasks and project work that demonstrates your developing skills and growing confidence. Evidence may include:

●  completed photography exercises and short projects

●  selected images showing technical and creative progress

●  planning and development work

●  evaluation, reflection and notes from feedback

Your tutor will provide ongoing feedback to help you improve your skills and achieve the best possible outcomes.
On successful completion you could:

●  Progress to a Level 1 or beginner photography course

●  Continue developing photography as a hobby or personal interest

●  Build confidence using a camera for travel, family, events or creative projects

●  Explore other creative courses such as Art & Design, Digital Media or Photoshop

This course is an ideal first step for learners who want to build confidence, develop a new creative skill and begin enjoying photography in a more informed and purposeful way.

-Not in paid employment and receive means tested benefit: please bring with you current dated benefit documentation.
-In paid employment but an annual gross salary of less than £25,000: please bring your wage slips dated within 3 months of the start of the course
