Level 3 Diploma in Social Care
Course content & format
Are you caring, patient, observant and logical? Do you want to make a difference and have a rewarding career supporting others? Then this level 3 course is the course for you!
This exciting new qualification has been developed in partnership with employers and industry experts to provide learners with the essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed to begin a successful career in health and social care. The Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care prepares learners to work safely, effectively, and compassionately within care settings that support people across all stages of life.
This is a full time, 2-year study programme, which covers a range of topics, which are assessed internally and externally. Learners will prepare for a health & Social-related career with this course, equivalent to A Levels. It will give you the opportunity to develop your academic and writing skills and apply your knowledge to a real-life setting during practical work experience.
Learners will explore a range of key topics, including:
- The values and principles of the social care profession - Person-centered and holistic approaches to care - Communication and partnership working - Safeguarding, equality, and inclusion
- Health, safety, and wellbeing in care environments - Employability skills and reflective practice
Your learning experience
This course supports learners’ access to Higher Education and progression into a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector. This course is for learners who would like to work with individuals who may be vulnerable and/ or require some additional support with tasks of daily living. This qualification promotes high quality care and support and have been mapped to the standards within the Care Certificate which forms part of the apprenticeship standards.
Subject teachers have industry experience which is shared with learners. This provides a stimulating learning environment and promotes positive learning. The course will also help develop those all-important employability skills that will help you decide on your career path. On this 2-year course, you are required to have a disclosure and barring service check (DBS); this allows you to access the work experience that is required to develop your skill set within health and social care. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a real-life insight into health and social care provision. Alongside the course, you will also attend visits and trips to support and enhance your classroom delivery such as University trips and UCAS convention.
Entry qualifications
Learners should have 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above including mathematics and/ or English. You will be required to re-sit your English or mathematics alongside your health and social care course (If you do not already have grade 4).
You will be interviewed by the subject teachers and should be enthusiastic about working with individuals who may be vulnerable and/ or require some additional support with tasks of daily living. You will need to source and secure your own work placement.
You are required to have a disclosure and barring service check (DBS)
How is this course assessed?
There are 23 internally assessed units. You will be assessed through a variety of assessment methods including discussions, displays, case studies, presentations, extended written work and practical assessments whilst on placement. You will also take part in simulated activities.
A mandatory part of your course is 1 full day a week of external work placement and some block placements
This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* (all grades carry UCAS points)
What can I do next?
· Employment as a Care Support Worker, Personal Assistant, or Community Support Worker
· Higher-level study such as Health and Social Care, Nursing, or Social Work degrees
· Apprenticeships within health and care professions
